Servers and Taperers
Altar Servers are vital to the liturgical life of a Church we are a source of stability to the life of the parish where we serve and are more closely associated with the Priest at the Altar than is any other member of the congregation.
They are faithful members of our community.
Our parishoners demand a style of liturgy that is delivered carefully and diligently with least fuss. The Priest depends on Servers to execute an act of worship correctly and prepare well before the service.
Being a Server doesn't necessarily mean a sacrifice but demands a dedicated commitment of time, in already busy lives it is a distinct calling but one that rewards over and over again.
It is a privilege to work alongside so many Priests and serve at the Altar. Preparing the communion vessels, daily readings and directing the ablutions after the service are a few of the many responsibilities of the dutiful servers.
At St James our Servers are associated with the Guild of Servants of the Sanctuary belonging to the Chapter of our Lady of Lincoln.
Dependant on availability of volunteers our team consists of two Taperers one Server and the Crucifer.
If you are interested in joining our team, weekly attendance is not necessary, one Sunday a month will suffice, please contact Mrs Kim Thompson.
