Organist and Choirmaster
Frederic Goodwin read Music at Oxford University, where he sang daily evensong in the choir of Magdalen College under Bernard Rose and was a counter-tenor soloist in many student concerts. He was a founder-member of the professional vocal group The Clerkes of Oxenford. Whilst at Oxford he also studied the organ with John Webster, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. After graduation he pursued a teaching career in the independent sector, and was for many years Director of Music at the John Lyon School in Harrow, as well as being Choirmaster at the Borough Church of St Mary, Harrow on the Hill. A feature of his career has been the teaching of individual singers and organists, many of whom have achieved notable success as professional musicians, including Andrew Carwood, the present Director of Music at St Paul's Cathedral, London. He now calls upon his wealth of experience in the nurture of musicians here at St James' Church.
