Before beginning her training for ordination in 2003, Rev Sue had a career in social work and in the West Midlands Probation Service in a variety locations.

She trained full time at Queens College Birmingham, an Ecumenical college, where Anglicans, Methodists and United Reformed Church ordinands live, worship and learn alongside each other. Out of that experience is a strong commitment to working ecumenically with sister churches in Louth.

Whilst there Rev Sue strengthened her links with the Community of St Mary the Virgin, Wantage by becoming a Novice Oblate and began a training course she continues, to be a Spiritual Director, which finishes in July 2010.
